My keyboard which came with this pooter (Novatech) is performing even
more erratically than usual today. When I first booted up certain
letters were not appearing when I was typing out messages. Tried
typing into notepad and same letters were missing. Tried a reboot to
no avail. So tried removing and replacing keyboard plug (not usb -
listed as a PS/2 I think) - still no change. Tried to update
driver, but it could not be found on my restore CD. Set pooter to
reboot and went to have breakfast. Can't use system restore as that
won't w*rk on ths machine, and I can't seem to get Erunt to w*rk
either. Strangely, system restore doesn't w*rk on my new notepad
either - must be something to do with my registry clean up
procedures
:( When I returned from breakfasting after the second reboot every
was
w*orking OK. So I do suspect that a driver problem although 'Driver
Agent' does say the keyboard driver is up to date and device manager
says it's w*rking correctly. Any ideas, since as it clears itself
after a few reboots I don't think it can be the keyboard itself that
is faulty.

Perhaps, but I've a lot more faulty keyboards than faulty keyboard
drivers.

A keyboard is a complex mechanical/electronic device with lots to go
wrong, a driver is a simple program, not much to go wrong, and a reboot
should cure it if it does.

It has usually been put right by a single reboot in the past, but it took
three this morning.

Which letters (and numbers) were missing?

There's about 8 of them, but I can only remeber that *e* and *d* were
missing this time, and *a* , *b* , *c* and *f* were OK. Didn't
investigate further this time.

Were the matching shifted letters missing?

Didn't check that. If it happens again I'll check all keys and Shift
equivalents - save a script of the good ones to show you.

How old is the keyboard?

About 3 years.

Have you tried cleaning it - or just turning it upside down and shaking
it?

Nope, but since after a reboot all the missing characters re-appear I
wouldn't have thought it wasn't the mechanics of the keyboard that was
causing the problem.
