I will do that from now on.

My last hard drive purchase (Scan Computers) took weeks to sort out.

My only experience of Scan Computers was not exactly a disaster but
did end up costing me more money than it should have done. Years ago
when CD rewriters were cutting edge, I bought a Philips 4 speed CD
rewriter from them at a cost of £149 (yes that *is* one four nine).
When it arrived, a day late because City Link decided they couldn't
be bothered to get the day right, it didn't work. I received an RMA
from Scan and had to send the drive back at my own expense. It took a
week to get a (working) replacement and despite numerous letters and
phone calls I eventually gave up trying to get my £14 back. :-(

My "recommendations" have cost them *much* more than that over the
years
I could start a computer museum with all the (expensive) stuff I have bought
in the last twenty years. I think that I had an even more expensive CD drive
than yours but it went back as there was an IRQ clash with the sound card
that I had bought at the same time for my 386 (that lives behind the setee)
My stangest buy was a system for backing up to video tape, painfully slow
and difficult to find indiviual files but it was a life saver a couple of
times.
Derek.
