We were in Woolies in Hastings yesterday and in Seaford today. New
stock was coming in. Pile it high sell it cheap?

Probably. They have to empty the warehouses before they shut the
shops for ever.
Surely, they could raise more money reselling to the trade rather than
heavily discounting to the public?
