you boot from this it restores the disk to the state it was in as it
left the factory. Not only does it zap your Windows installation it also
zaps any data on the disk.
Reinstalling the OS from a proper install disk will still overwrite your
OS but it won't touch any of your data. You should also have the option
of repairing an installation without removing any of the customisation
settings.
This is why I was asking what "It wiped the existing Windows
installation" means. I would expect the OS to be replaced in its
entirety, but not necessarily files that the users had created. I got
the reply "deleted it." which just leaves me in the dark: what is "it"?
