Not 'quite' up to Letter from America' standards, but this is Boo, not
Alistair Cook, so you get second class mail <g>
So, here we are almost at the end of April. Nearly four months since we
arrived.
LOL its amazing the number of people we come across who all have the same
question - 'What brought you to Edmonton' I am always sorely tempted to say
a big plane , but mostly I refrain :-) A young girl in a shop asked Mr Boo
that question back in January when the weather was so dire and he calmly
replied ( with a straight face) 'It was the climate that attracted us' Poor
girl, she was most confuddled. I thumped him and apologised <g>
Weather seems to be going in swings and roundabouts atm, couple of weeks ago
we had a cracking weekend, temps in the twenties and it was glorious. The
next weekend we had a winter storm and about 12 inches of snow over the
space of a few days.
That's all gone now and I have my fingers crossed that its gone for good
till next winter.
A good sign is that the City of Edmonton ( sort of equivalent to our local
council) seems to think that winter is over too. After so many months of
snow and the roads being gritted/sanded once the snow disappears you are
left with mucky roads . The edges of the roads are quite deep with grit and
sand. This week has been the big clear up. Road sweeping trucks are
everywhere, sucking up the dirt and are followed by road washing trucks. The
city is looking clean and tidy :-) The rain we have this evening will clear
a lot of the dust away too. River is decidedly 'unfrozed' and the Edmonton
Queen is fnally free of the ice, ready to start her season of trips along
the river. No leaves on the trees yet, and no sprng flowers like I would see
at home, but I get the feeling that one morning soon I will wake to greenery
outside my window.
We have a lot more birds in evidence, not quite sure what a lot of them are,
there's one that makes a lovely noise ( lovely during the day, annoying at
stoopid o clock <g>) must find a website that has Canadian bird song to help
me identify them all. Still catching glimpses of the hares in the park,
which delights me. We even saw one in a car park down in Strathcona at the
weekend, I decided it was one of mine who had gone to do a bit of shopping
and he forgot where he had parked the car :-) If I had known he was going to
be there he could have joined us for lunch at the really nice place we ate
at.
Still enjoying my time here, I did start at a hamster wheel last week, but
it didn't turn out to be what I had in mind ( or what I was led to believe
it would entail) so I decided to say its been interesting but I aint
playing anymore ( the bit about being interesting was a big fib, but I
didn't like to be too rude LOL)
Have decided to be wheel-less for a while, maybe after the summer is over I
will rethink but for the mo will enjoy the summer in my new ( temporary)
home. Will have visitors for most of it anyway LOL. Edmonton has a long
winter and when the nice weather arrives the Edmontonians make the most of
it. Lots happening in the summer months here and Boo loves a good party!
