It's absolutely unbelievable, isn't it?
I watched a similar program last year Pam. What I don't understand is
firstly how they get to be that heavy and secondly how they get so many
people to be looking after their needs. I wouldn't have thought they'd be
able to get medical insurance in the US and the treatment and care they
are getting must cost so much. I remember back in 1963 I was in St
Georges hospital London and their were 2 young girls who were quite large
in private side wards - around the 20 stone mark. They were there as
research was being carried out on certain glandular problems. At the time
they were on salad only diets. But to get to almost 70 stone is
something I can't understand how it happens.
I think it must be quite complicated FN, a sort of vicious circle. Maybe
there is something physcological wrong ( food is a comforter as well as a
fuel) and then as someone grows larger maybe their stomach stretches so even
when they have eaten a lot they don't feel 'full'. I don't know, I just
think it is sad that this lady wasn't able to be helped in time.
I've just remembered, its my Granny's fault! She had this 'thing' about thin
people, and thought they needed feeding up! Probably a reaction to food
shortages during the war. Grannies in my day always filled you full of grub!
