If we go away I just use an adapter to suit the local plug socket and
don't worry too much about the different rated leccy.
Canadian leccy is different from ours ( can you tell I don't know a lot
about leccy stuff?)
Should I buy a suitable power source when I get there or just carry on
with my plug it in and ignore the differences masterplan ?
( in other words, long term will it make my cute little macbook
brokted? )

The Apple power bricks are universal. If you can plug it in it'll work
on anything from 90v - 240v 50/60Hz.
Canadian electricity supply is the same as the US, 110v 60Hz.

I should think all laptop power supplies would be the same.
Most desktop power supplies are as well, although they will usually have
a switch to change the voltage.
