well I for one wasn't able to upload images without having an index
file,
was refused every time. So how did you manage to do it, this
enquiring
mind needs to know.

It let me upload the folder with the images in ( but no index file) ,
but wont display a directory list for that folder, which would be the
norm for a folder with no index file in it.
