Virgin Media - good service

so far.
We needed to get a phone and internet in a house in London. The area is
cabled, it was NTL, and previous occupants had it installed, but had
sytematically destroyed the boxes on the walls both inside and outside
the house. (feckin' animals)
I contacted Virgin Media by phone on Tuesday evening to order a basic
package of broadband, phone and TV. You can do this on-line but their
website was having problems.
£20 a month for 2meg broadband, telephone and a basic TV package,
probably equal to freeview but I haven't checked what channels are
available, and there is a Sky dish on the house anyway if I ever need
more. The charming lady on the phone gave me the £20 discount for
signing up on line, which reduced the installation fee to a fiver, and
told me we also get free UK landline calls 24/7, which is better than
the weekends only, advertised on the website.
"When do you want it installed? We can do Thursday afternoon or Friday
morning"
"Er? Ah, ok Friday morning please".
"OK".
I got a text message confirming this within minutes. I also got another
text message on Thursday just to make sure it was still ok.
And the engineer fetched up Friday morning to install it all.

He tidied up the cabling, installed new boxes inside the house, and
despite some minor problems getting the phone working, got it all up and
running in a couple of hours.
There was a problem getting the cable modem recognized using the
registration information sent to us, but a nice lady in India, who was
familiar with Apple Macs incidentally, how refreshing, fixed that
remotely.
All in all, compared to other phone companies, ISP's and Sky, impressive
stuff. So far.
I switched it all off when we came home, so we shall see if it all works
when we go back next week.
