I have actually seen the ISS just after a shuttle had undocked. It was in Florida one 4th July and we had been sitting on a grass banking watching the fireworks, the smoke from the fireworks cleared and we saw these * strange objects*. It took a little while to realise what it was, and the sighting as clear as it was late at night was probably pure luck. According to the next day's press it was something to do with the sun having set but the ISS was picking up the reflection of the sun from beyond our horizon.

Yes, I suspect a lot of "UFO sightings" are sun reflections off satellites.
