Had to go back to the dentist today, socket very sore where tooth was
extracted 10 days ago. He confirmed it was a "dry socket" and injected
some antiseptic, packed it and put me on antibiotics. I always seem to
have these problems with extractions :-(
I got charged close to £20 again so nearly £40 for an extraction so far,
plus the antibiotic prescription.
I actually wonder whether to go for private dental treatment, does anybody
here do that? The local dentist doesn't do Denplan but there is one about
20 minutes away who does. It strikes me it's not likely to cost much more,
I will get appointments more quickly, the dentist will actually speak to
me rather than grunting and the dental nurses for the private dentists are
definitely the attractive ones :-)
I have another tooth starting to twinge but cannot get an appointment
before mid September so that's likely to be another emergency extraction
long before then.
The last good - very good dentist I had was in the 1970's since he
retired they have got worse and worse.
The last one was nothing more than a joke, he did an inspection in 30
seconds! that's the truth.
About a year ago I had a filling drop out, he did a temporary job
which was supposed to be semi permanent this time in about 2 minutes.
A week later that came loose or fell out and I was left with a bit of
loose tooth which I could push back into place. This went whilst I
was waiting for another appointment.
When I got there he started to look around, and surprise, surprise, he
got a prodder and started to prod about, even the partial plate I
have. Funny I thought.
Then he asked which tooth is the problem, reply, the one you did last
week. He now asked the nurse/computer operator what tooth he had done
last week!.
Another look around, and he said "its gone" its not there" and was so
surprised he had to sit down to recover.
Honest, this is all true.
We had a 'consultation' whilst he recovered and it was decided to
leave well alone, quite frankly, I did not want him buggering about
with my teeth any more. I still have a gap/hole. It is probably a
hospital job now.
Now if anybody wants this info to write a TV comedy they are welcome
to the idea.
On my wife's next visit she had the chance to change to another
dentist and did so, one visit and she had gone, so we are now with
another dentist from Spain I think, but I have not been back.
