The idea of the Temporary Internet Files (Cache) is so that any Files
(Web Pages, Pictures etc,) that have been fetched by your Web Browser
from a Web Server are stored (Cached), ready to be picked up straight
from the Cache, the next time they are needed.

That helps a lot with things like the Graphics for Buttons & Logos
etc, on Web Pages - there's no need to continually Re-Download them.
& it also helps stop the Disk Drive from getting so fragmented so quickly,
which is what will happen if you keep Deleting them)

OK I'll buy the bit about the HD getting fragmented but on a BB speed of (
at last check) 6152kbs I can't say I've noticed pages any slower after
emptying my Temp Internet Files.

If you are concerned about the space they take up (or if you want
to limit the number of Files in the TIF Cache [*1]) then just alter
the size of the Cache in the Internet Options.

It's not space, just habit going back to the advice I got when I had W98, an
8Gb HD and a 56k modem and like some people clean the car every Sunday it's
become a habit :-) I believe some people still delete newsgroup posts every
day, now that's something I can't understand the reasoning behind.

The Default amount of space that is allocated for the TIF Cache was
Set way back in the old days (as, I think, 5 % of the available Hard
Disk Space), when Hard Disks were much smaller.
These days taht amount of space is *far* too much! - Cos it means
that there will be several hundred MB allocated.
32 or 64 MB is plenty of space for the Temporary Internet Files Cache.

Mine is set to 80MB.

Other temp files maybe once a month when I have a full Monty clean
up and defrag etc.

You would actually do better to Clear the "Temp" Folder more frequently!
& leave the Temporary Internet Files (Cache) Folder to look after
itself, once you have Set the size of it to something sensible.

It's a while since I've cleared the temp folder but there was only 62 MB in
there. Interestingly ( 'cos I've never actually watched it clearing them
before) disk clean up doesn't delete them all ? There's some in there dated
10/03/06 and not all with the file name tmp ?

People will forget what you said.
People will forget what you did, but
People will never forget how you made them feel.
