Lovely story, Anita. Brings back long-forgotten memories.
There was the blackout too. "Put that light out!"
and EWS stood for Emergency Water Supply,
and LDV stood for Local Defence Volunteers (precursors of the
Home Guard.) with wooden rifles, and Vera Lyn,and the ration book,
and the Home and Forces programme and Ack Ack Beer Beer,
and many more.
What a vast war effort it was for all!
and all those tragic telegrams - things never to be forgotten.
Sam
Yes, I remember all those .................. unfortunately there was
just too much to write about, so many memories come to the fore when
you delve back.
To put it all down would have meant writing a book, but what I have
written about are things that really left large imprints on my mind.
Not all of those were covered either, but I am sure there are others
that can recall and write about their memories too. Would be so good
if they did so.
like you say Anita so many memories were uncovered writing these pieces
like me running around the strees looking for shrapnel that i started to
collec(until mum found it my pockets ;-) )
some of it was still hot when i picked it up LOL
