I would call myself a complete computer "learner" in fact I know's
nothing - apart from how to turn it on.
I up for a new laptop from Dell -
Why Dell in particular?
There are plenty of different Laptop makers & Suppliers around.
If (since) you are (as you say) "a complete computer learner",
you may well do better to buy a Lptop from a *Shop*/Retail outlet,
so you can see what you're buying (& use it?) before buying it.
I want to use it for Ebay selling so I want to be able to store
some pictures and stuff.
I want to use it for Email.
I want to be Browsing the Web and using Wikki and playing Solitare.
Any Laptop you buy will be plenty capable of doing all of that.
They will also be capable of (& come with stuff for) doing a lot more,
which may make it all look fairly complicated.
And I want to be doing my accounts via a programme called "Dosh"
which I already got on my home pc.
I would have thought that any Computer could Run Dosh (now owned by
MYOB - Mind Your own Business.
But you may find that you need to buy another License for it? -
To be able to Run the same copy on another Computer.
Or you may have to buy another (newer) Version of it.
Make sure that you'll be able to Transfer your existing Data Files
over OK (& also be able to Read/use them in any new Version of the
Program that you get.
I must have a thingy where I can save my files to a three and
a half inch square disc...
I think you'll find that's actually going to be very difficult!!!
There are very few (if any) PCs (especially Laptops) on the market
now, that come with a Floppy Disk Drive.
OK, yes, yo ucan still (from some places) get an External (USB)
Floppy Disk Drive, to Plug i, but they are rapidly becoming obsolete
& extinct.
You'd do better to look into some other sort of Storage Format (USB
Memory Stick ("ThumbDrive") type things, or any of the various Memory
Cards that are around.
Or an External Hard Disk.
& get something of that kind of thing (which will work with the
Laptop) to work with your existing Desktop PC.
& ReSave all the stuff you have at the moment on Floppy Disk, onto
whatever sort of Storage Device you get.
Apart from that I dont want no fancy gizzmo's - no - gimmicks -
no frills - I dont want to burn cd's
Why not?
CDs are a perfectly good way of storing stuff!
They aren't just for Storing/Playing Music on.
They will be around for a lot longer than Floppy Disks will!
& they will still be readable in most Computers for quite a while yet.
- or set fire to anything else ....
Anybody got a reccomendation please ?
Any Laptop will do the things you mention above (apart from the
Floppy Disk).
So really, you need to go & have a look at some & see if you are
happy with the Screen & Keyboard etc.
