Hi.
I finally purchased a TV cum monitor this week from Maplins.
Ah, great!
:-)
An LG M1721A, advertised at £150, but sold to me for £135 since
it was the display model.
Specs seemed decent enough
This one?...

Seems to be the Maplin Stock Number A86GZ?...

Yep - that seems to be a fairly typical 17 Inch LCD Display (with
a TV Tuner Built-in, but the Tuner is an Analogue one & not a Digital
one).
& it has the typical, (for 17 Inch Monitors), low Resolution of only
1280 x 1024 - but that does seem to be fairly standard.
At least it's better than the old, previous Resolutions of only
1024 x 768 (or even as low as 640 x 480) that TV/Monitors used to have!
When I bought an LCD TV that also had a PC Monitor Input (which was
2 or 3 years ago, now), 640 x 480 was the standard Resolution & a few
had 1024 x 768 & that was on the 20 Inch Model!
:-(
& it fits into the spare room desk-top "entertainment system"
quite well, but I think that the 14" Alba CRT that it replaced had
a better picture, even when being fed from a DVD player or a freeview
box.
Maybe - but an LCD Flat Screen TV/Monitor itakes up a lot less room,
doesn't it?
:-)
I've not yet tried it out as a PC monitor, but will do so ASAP.
If you're happy using a Screen with a Resolution of only 1280 x 1024,
then it's going to be OK.
It might be going back to Maplins, if I'm nottoo impressed...
OT, but I'm more than impressed by the Tevion Digital STB purchased
from Aldi this week.
That's installed in front of my old (but good) 25" 4-3 JVC TV that
I keep in the conservatory & gives a good picture on a 50% or lower
signal strength, frrom a small hi-gain antenna fixed to the wall
about 12 ft above the ground.
I haven't yet got any Digital (Terrestrial) Tuner STB or PVR/Video
Recorder - I'm still looking for one that suites.
I have a Telewest Cable TV Connection, which gives more than enough
Channels to watch (& also the normal Analogue TV & 2 (Analogue) Video
Recorders) & I don't watch much TV, so I'm in no rush - the Analogue
Signal round here won't be switched off for a few years yet, so by
the time it is Switched off, there'll be a much better range of Video
Recorders (PVRs) with Digital Tuners & Hard Disks
I must get my main, in-loft, antenna replaced with a decent higain,
+ an omnidirectional FM jobbie as high as possible above the house,
so I don't have to rely on VM for digital broadcasting.
The (Terrestrial) Signal round here is OK, for both Analogue & Digital.
But we can't get Channel Five off air (Analogue).
I have the basic Telewest (now VirginMedia) TV Package to get Channel
5 & the other stuff that isn't available on Analogue/Terrestrial,
but it means we can only Record *one* Channel at a time if the
Channel(s) are only available on Cable/Digital.
To Record BBC1, BBC2, ITV & Channel 4 is OK, but the other stuff
(coming through the Cable Set Top Box) can only have one Channel
Recorded at a time.
