Bt Homehub...
Although I haven't (yet) configured any wireless settings,
<snip>If you are not going to use it for a while, just disable the
wireless networking on your Home Hub.
Where you would do that though, is a different question :-)
Do you know something.... neither do I :-)
It's all explained in the User Manual that comes with it!
:-)
Have you read that?
Yes (cursorily)
& there are also some very useful & informative WebSites, with
plenty of Info about it.
Did you look at & read the one I mentioned & gave a Link to, when
you last asked about the BT Home Hub?
http://frequencycast.co.uk/homehub.html
Doing it now
That's got a lot of useful Info.
You need to Access the WiFi Router's Admin Pages.
That can be done by using their "Setup" Utility, or by just using
a Web Browser.
You can access it using a URL with HostName...
http://bthomehub.home/
Or by using a URL with the WiFi Router's IP Address, which,
by Default is...
http://192.168.1.254/
The Default UserName (& PassWord), used to Log on to the Admin Pages
of it is: "admin" - so, obviously(!) one of the first things you
should do, is to change the PassWord.
You can Log in without using the "admin" PassWord, but then you
can't get to all the various Pages on it.
Have emailed a couple of caps of my Admin page
Which I have Received & looked at...
... and as you will see there is no wireless connection detected
and (I suspect) because of this I have no access to security
settings.
Nope.
What that ScreenShot (of the Home (Status) Page of the Admin/Setup
Pages of the Modem/WiFi Router) is showing (in the Section "My Home
Network"), is the different Devices that are Currently (when the
ScreenShot was taken) Connected to it - it lists the things that
are Connected to it via Ethernet Connections (your PC with the Name
of "jim" & something else called "Y7R252" - do you know what that is?)
& it lists the stuff Connected to it by USB - such as Printers
& External Hard Disks etc, (there aren't any)
& it also lists anything that is Connnected to it by WiFi (there
aren't any).
If & when anything Connects to it, (by Ethernet, USB or WiFi), they
would show up in that Section of that Status Page in the WiFi Router.
This is probably due to me setting the hub up manually as opposed
to using the CD.
Nope.
You can get to all the various Settings from the Routers Admin Pages.
Another consequence of this is there is no hub manager software
on my PC.
No probs.
Everything you need to do, to Configure it can be done using the
Router's Admin Pages, accessed by a Web Browser (& you can also Access
extra stuff using its Telnet Interface.)
But to get to the relevant WiFi Settings, using the Web based
Interface you will need to Log in to it using the UserName & PassWord
you have Set - if you haven't yet Set one, then just use the Default
of "admin" & then change it from the Default, once you have Logged in.
Click the "Advanced" Link in the Navigation bit at the top left on
the Routers Admin Page...

That should Pop up a Login Prompt in your Web Browser, where you Enter
the Admin UserName & PassWord.
I am leary of now running the CD in case of conflict.
There's really no need to run it.
Can we netmeet?
Yep, certainly!
:-)
I'll give you a shout (Skype or Phone), when I get a chance, OK?
