Thanks for all the replies - much appreciated and very helpful.
So it seems as if we should be looking at 2GB of Ram. Had a look at memory
upgrades from Crucial and that upgrade (1GB to 2GB) would cost around £40
as opposed to the £70 from Dell. Fitting it would involve travel and put
the cost up, so thinking that we might just go for the upgrade from Dell -
not decided yet.
As for a laptop rather than a desktop - damn good idea - just one slight
problem :-( The main user grandchild is 16 and would *love* a laptop to
replace his very old 2nd hand laptop that's just died. Problem is that the
other 2 are *much* younger (8 & 11 and fight a lot) and I don't think a
laptop would survive more than a couple of days before getting dropped on
the floor - or something similar :-( Also their mother would like to keep
an eye on what they're up to - desktop would be easier for that - she'll
site it where *she* wants it :-)
