Well a sync light at least and a steady one :D
Brilliant!!!
That's great!
really good!!!
:-)
*Now* you can go about sussing out the other little probs & get
it Connected to the Internet.
:-)
But, still not connecting to the internet for some reason, having
to use dial up to post this.
Have you seen (& read) that Page (on the UserTools.Plus.Net Site)
That I Posted the URL of?
Tutorials - ADSL > Trouble Shooting
http://usertools.plus.net/tutorials/id/10
That's got some nice, clear, easy to follow explanations of
(some of) the various things you can do to suss it all out.
You can use the special BT Test UserName, to check that the Internet
Connection is OK, at least to the BT Network.
& you can use the ISp's (Plusnet's) special Test UserName to check
that the Internet Connection is OK as far as the ISp's network.
& then you can use your own ADSL UserName, to check that your Account
Authenticates OK with the ISP.
Each of those stages need to work correctly, for you to be able to
Access the Internet & using those various test logins will help you
to establish where (& what) the prob is.
I unplugged everything connected to the phone line (again), even
the dial up cable but still no joy.
But, so long as the ADSL Synch Light on the Modem is lighting up
properly now, (which means that the Modem is Synching with the ADSL
Line), then that's that prob sussed.
Any (minor) issues with your wiring in the house will now just affect
the actual Speed of the Connection.
& Authentication with the ISP won't be affected (in almost all
circumstances) by the Wiring in the house.
So long as the Synch Light is OK, you can now stop worrying or
concerning yourself with that side of it.
:-)
... So connecting now by dial up and will post an update to Plusnet
and see what they advise.
Try going through the various steps that we first of all mentioned, way
back at the beginning.
& also, have a look at & go through the steps on that "UserTools"
Page & the PlusNet ADSL Trouble Shooter.
You can do all that while the Dial Up Connection is Active, if you want,
so you can read the Pages about what to do.
Remeber, the (ADSL) Connection between the *Modem* (Router) & the
Internet is completely separate & independent from the Connection
between your Dial Up Modem & the Internet & also separate & independent
from the Connection between your PC (Laptop &/or Desktop) & the Router.
Some progress at least :)
Yep!!!
:-)
But the final piece of the jigsaw has yet to be put in place !
Yep, but that should be relatively easy to get sussed out know!
:-)
Though yes, it may take a bit of patience & a bit of Faffing around.
BTW - Have you now (since you have 2 *different* ADSL Modems & ADSL
Leads etc, available<g>) tried using the original (3Com) Modem with the
(now Synching OK) ADSL Line?
