Re: Lost Drives

I think we're going to need (a fair bit) more Information, to be able
to stand much chance of sussing out the prob!

Can you elaborate a bit on what the actual prob is?

Is the prob with the Hard Disk Drive Icons?
Or the CD/DVD Drive Icons?
Or the Memory Card Icons?
Or all/some of those?
Or what?

& what shows up in the Disk Management Utility?

You can get to that via the Computer Management Console thingy...

(In the Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management,
or in the Start Menu> Administrative Tools>Computer Management,
if the Option to show it in the Start Menu has been Enabled - if it
hasn't, it would be a good idea to Enable it)

& you can also get to the Computer Management Utility by Right
Clicking "My Computer" (to bring up the Context Menu) & Selecting
"Manage", or by using:

Start>Run compmgmt.msc [OK]

Then, Navigate down through the Tree (on the left) to Storage>
Disk Management.

You can also Open up the Disk Management Utility directly by using:

Start>Run diskmgmt.msc [OK]

I mention several of the different ways of getting to it, cos I know
most people have their own preferences for doing things - some people
like to do it directly from the Start Menu (&/or Run Box), others like
to do it all from "My Computer" & others like to go in through the Control Panel.
& some people know about RightClicking to do various different things
& others don't.

Also, using windoze Explorer, make sure that the "Folders" Tree View
is showing on the left of the Window (Click the [Folders] Button, or
use Menu>View>Explorer Bar>Folders) or just Open it up in Explorer
View directly, so the Folder Tree is showing, by RightClicking
"My Computer" & choosing "Explore" 7 have a look & see what shows up,
expanding the various different parts of the Tree.

That way (with the Folder Tree View showing), it's easier to see
what's what.

This is my friend's reply.

No sign of drives in My Computer.
System restore was atempted as far back as I could go (8 days) but not successful.I
suspect the drives have been missing or some time as I do not often use the CDRW
and DVD drives. I have also found my floppy disk is also missing as I have the
following message when clicking on in Device manager--windows succesfully loaded the
device driver but cannot find the hardware device(code41)

Device manager does not show the CDRW or DVD drives!

I have found the PowerDVD.exe program but when double clicking I get error code
000027 unable to load fileU1_RES.DLL

I would very much appreciate any advice and/or visit to restore the drives.I cannot
imagine what on earth has caused this and surely XP would not remove hardware
without warning of consequences?
