No it wasn't the same. Smokey wanted to know what it was in
principle.
You wanted to know every last detail to a solve a question I never
asked <g> cos you had a glimpse of summat that you would view as
'interesting' LOL
LOL!
Yes, I do view it as "interesting"!
:-)
Cos I Downloaded, Installed & Ran AVG Free 7.5 on a Virtual Machine
& it all works fine!
So, (naturally?<g>) I was interested to know what the differences
were, between the particular Setup you were using which had the probs
with it & the one I was using, which had no probs with it.
& the only way I can know what the differences are, is by asking
you what you were using - such as the Make & Version of the Virtual
Machine Software, the (Physical) Machine you are Running it on & the
Version of the (Guest) Operating System you are Running on it.
(OK, yes, I think I prolly know most of that, but (for all I know),
you *might* have changed some, or all of it!)
OK...
Yes, it *is* (very!<g>) interesting!...
Cos I have now tried it using an Apple MacBook, Running OS X
10.4.8 (previously I tried it using a PC) & Running Parallels - Release
Version 2.5.3188 (previously I tried it using M$ VPC 2007)
AVG Free 7.5.446 (Downloaded from the free.grisoft.com Site)
Installs & Runs fine in it!
& it Updates OK as well.
On both of them I am Running Win XP (it happens to be WinXP Pro, OEM,
but I don't *think* that would make any difference - if anything WinXP
Pro is *less* likely to be "allowed", cos it can be Set to Run as being
on a "Domain" & the AVG (Free) Licence Agreement specifically excludes
the use of AVG Free on Machines Running as a "Server").
So, the only remaining differences (that I can think might affect it)
are the particular Settings you are using in your Version of Parallels,
for the Virtual Machine you have Created in it...
One thing that I think *might* have a bearing on it, (but I'm not
certain that it will actually matter, but I reckon is worth checking)
is how the Network Interface (in the Parallels Virtual Machine) is
Configured - have a look in the VM Configuration Window of the Virtual
Machine & Select the "Network Adapter"...
Have you got it Set up to use "Shared Networking"?
Or "Bridged Ethernet"?
Or "Host Only"?
Also, have you made sure to Install the "Parallels Tools" in the Virtual
Machine? - They Install a better Driver for the Network Adapter.
(& they also make the whole thing work a lot better, in various ways,
with the Host Operating System, as well)
I'd be interested to know how your particular Virtual Machine is Set up.
:-)
Partly for my own interest & also so as to be able to Help you get
your current prob with your AVG Installation in it sussed out!
:-)
