Have you got the File (& Printer?) Sharing stuff sussed out yet?
No - now that's something you can tell me about; if I could work
the printer from the laptop it would be useful.
Yep.
I thought that you might find that useful...
Now that you have the 2 PCs (Desktop & Laptop) both Connected up
to the Router OK, that means that you could get it all Set up so
as to be able to Transfer stuff to & from each PC to the other
& to Access the stuff on each PC from the other.
That can be really useful.
I have read somewhere that Net Meeting will not work on Vista.
I could not get Outlook Express on Vista either for my mails.
Well, NetMeeting is something a bit different from the normal "File
& Printer Sharing" that windoze has.
NetMeeting is used to actually *see* (& Optionally Control) the Desktop
Display of another PC on your Network (or over the Internet).
Yes, you can also Transfer Files using it, but to do File (& Printer)
Sharing, you don't need to use NetMeeting.
Yes, as you say, NetMeeting doesn't come with Vista (unlike WinXP)
But Vista has other similar things (as Steve mentioned) such as
"Windows Live Messenger" & RDP - Remote Desktop Control Protocol -
both of which are available for WinXP.
To "Share" Files (&/or Folders) & Printer(s) from either the WinXP
Machine(s) to the Vista Machine (or Vice Versa), you need to Enable
the Option for "File & Printer Sharing" & then "Share" each thing -
File, Folder or Printer on one Machine, so that it's visible
(Accessible)
from the other Machine(s) on your LAN (Local Area Network)
Once you've done that you can then just "Browse" to the stuff that
you have Shared, using the other Machine(s)
The things that are Shared show up in windoze Explorer & in the
"Network Places" Window.
If it's a File or Folder, you just work with them as normal & if it's
a Printer, yo ujust choose the (Shared) Printer, from the DropDown List
in the Print Dialog Box within an Application.
