I normally use IE to ftp, but today it won't work. Pipex apparently
have no probs their end. I have a desktop shortcut which normally
takes me straight into the web server. Originally, I'd get a
username/password box, but IIRC, I set windows to remember this, so
it doesn't appear now. In IE, I get a message saying I don't have
permission to access the server, in Netscape I get a
message.....'530 anonymous cannot login'. Any ideas what might be
wrong? Can I clear what Windows has remembered so I get the
name/pword box again? TIA

Have you tried going to File:log in as, when you first connect to the
server? Try that and click Log On. If that doesn't do it, then untick
the remember box and put your details in again

Thanks for that Boo. That was what I wanted to do, but didn't know
how. Still doesn't work though.Am now holding in a ten min queue for
Pipex support :(

Have you tried logging in from a command prompt?
to do that on mine for my plusnet space I open a command window and at the
prompt type in
ftp[space] then the name of the server..which is ftp.plus.net then I press
return

Now it asks me for a user name type that in and press return again
then it asks for the password again type it in and press return

then , if it likes me ( which it does) I get a message saying
230 User tickettyboo logged in

then I type in quit and it says goodbye lol isn't it polite? :-)

May at least prove if the username/password are ok and you can connect,
just not atm via IE ?

If it is just IE that wont let you play, there is a setting in
Tools:Interent Options: Security:Custom Level right at the very bottom of
mine there is a section about log in..mine is set to prompt for username
/password. No idea if it effects things like ftp, but worth a look to see
how yours is set?
