... wheras MSN has a better Instant Message / Chat facility.
Oh?
In what way(s) do you think it's better?
* It tells you when the other party is typing a reply.
Ah yes.
There is that.
* Very comprehensive selection of emoticons, winks, nudges
Oh wow!
:-)
How very useful! - Not!
:-)
... and attachable voice clips etc.
That *could*, possibly, be useful, for some people?
But then Skype can do that as well - just talk to the person - or Send
(using the File Transfer Facilty) the "Voice Clip"
I thought that the Skype way of TextChat/Instant messaging is
actually a lot better than the M$N way - Skype put a fair amount
of thought into their TextChat thing (as well as the VoIP thing) -
For example you can "Bookmark" a Chat & come back to it, you can
leave a Chat Open & refer to it & add bits to it later as well.
You can have several different Chats Open, with different "Subjects"
I'm not sure if Live Messenger offers some / all of these facilities?
Have only just started using.
I don't think it (M$N/Live Messenger) does.
I've seen no references to M$N.Live Messenger having those sort of
facilities on any of the Sites that talk about how the Skype why of
doing Voice Chat is designed to be more useful.
& you can also (usually) Send "Offline" Messages using it - which
you still can't with M$N (Live) messenger.
Windows Live Messenger *does* now allow offline message sending.
Messages are received as soon as the other party signs in.
Oh!
At last!
:-)
Yes, that could be very useful, for some people, under some
circumstances.
... I guess it depends what you do most, though no reason
not to use both.
Yep, but it all gets a bit silly, when you then end up with
umpteen different Instant messaging things such as AOL & ICQ
& Yahoo Instant Messenger as well!
Live Messenger now allows contact with those on Yahoo's latest
version of Messenger.
Yep, they announce a while ago, that Yahoo & M$N would be able to
Contact each other, at some point.
But does the VoIP work between them?
& what about Contacting people who use AOL (& ICQ)?
... IMO a combination of Skype *and* Windows Live Messenger gives me
the greatest potential contact reach.
Yep - & for others, Skype & AOL AIM (&/or ICQ) or Yahoo would do the
same.
It's really a pity that there are so many different, competing
Instant Messaging (& VoIP) things, isn't it?
Skype seems to have quite a good potential for doing most of what
people want to be able to do & it's also Marketed for people to use
it who are more used to (& want to) use it like a Phone.
