Well, when I first had XP after using ME I used the 600 x 800

too large it suited me.
WinXP is *very* difficult to use properly & satisfactorily with a
Resolution of only 800 x 600!!!
Most Programs will have *far* more Detail available than can be shown
adequately on an 800 x 600 Screen
But after a few months I reduced it to 1024 x 768
Well, actually that's *increasing* it! - Not Reducing it!
:-)
But yes, that will have the effect of making stuff on the Screen
look smaller - unless you make other adjustments to compensate.
adjusted some of the other settings to a little larger and I amused to it now,
1024 x 768 is how I have mine set and that suits me fine because
I'm only 4ft from the monitor.
Wow!
That seems a long way away!
I (as an example) usually have my Monitor about 2 Foot (maximum) away!!!
OK - it's a 19 Inch (CRT) Monitor & I have it Set to a Resolution
of 1600 x 1200 - that makes most stuff fairly small, bt it means
I can have a *lot* of different thinsg Open on the Screen at any
one time, all showing plenty of Detail.
Any larger and it's too "in yer face" for my liking.
Yep.
WinXP really doesn't work very well at a Screen Resolution of less
than 1024 x 768 (though obviously it *can* be used at lower Resolutions)
Any smaller and I'd need a magnifying glass or else sit too close
to the monitor. Terry and I both have TFT monitors.
When using a TFT (LCD) Monitor, you should really have the Display
Resolution Set to the "Native Resolution" of the Monitor, which is
1280 x 1024
Any other Display Re3solution will result in a compromise & a loss
of Detail.
BTW - Somebody (FN?) Mentioned the "ClearType Tuning" thingy?
ClearType is specifically designed for use with LCD Monitors & WinXP
Supports ClearType - it can make stuff a lot clearer & easier to use.
& it may well be worth while making sure you have the best ClearType
Settings for your LCD Display...
Even if you don't have the "ClearType Tuning" thingy, the normal WinXP
Display Properties Dialog Box lets you Set it to use ClearType...
Display Properties>Appearance>[Effects...]
[/] Use the Following method to smooth edges of Screen Fonts:
ClearType
[OK]
& you can also Tune the ClearType Settings using that thingy from
M$ (or use the Adobe Reader ClearType Options to do it as well)
BTW - IE7 Automatically Enables ClearType regardless of what you
have Set in the Display Options, apparently.
