You know that, I know that,
But *do* you?...
I often see Posts & comments from you which seem t oindicate that
you have a fairly Confuzzled & unclear grasp of a lot of thoat sort
of thing.
I generally put that down to the North South language divide a bit like USA
and UK are two countries divided by the same language ;-)
Don't take that the wrong way & get all upset about it!
Oh I've just thrown my dummy on the floor :-P
You can (& are, gradually) learn(ing) & find(ing) out a bit more
about it.
Trouble is when you get to my age ( and it'll come to you too someday :-))
when you learn something new something old has to fall out to make room for
it :-)
... Some of them are *(un)lucky* in that they have sons/nephew etc
who * know everything about pooters*
Well, anybody who claims to "know everything" about Computers is
basically (but not necessarily intentionally) lying - or at least under
a delusion.
So why am I lumbered with three newbies who have sons/nephews who *know*
everything, it ain't fair 'cos I know they only want the simple way but
son/nephew has managed to frighten them :-(
It's *impossible* for anybody to know *everything* about computers.
Even the people who *do* actually know a fair amount about them
are continually learning more.
Eggsactly but knowing where/when/who to ask is IMHO a far better and fairer
claim, just as I asked for advice about Firefox the other day to help a
newbie.
... so everything so OK, son/nephew will push a few keys and sort
*everything*. The fact that son/nephew doesn't have the time to
explain what those keys are or what happened when he pushed them
is a minor detail :-( Oh and ( in my experience) they have usually
installed an AV but forget to mention the fact that it needs updated.
Well, where does the "helping" end & the "patronising" begin?
Patronising IMHO begins with * I told you once how to do it, you should know
now* after the initial pushing of a few keys.
Do sensible people *really* need to be told to read the Instructions?
Oh! - Yes, they do!!!
:-(
& I also know that many people seem to take a perverse sort of
"delight" in *not* reading any form of Information or Help or
Instructions or Manual.
Oh come on has anybody ever found an instruction manual for any modern
electric equipment ( washing machine, VCR, DVD etc) which doesn't make
things sound more complicated than they really are ?
When people realise that buying & using a Computer (& the Internet)
- effectively - *isn't* like buying & using a Household Appliance
like a Toaster or a kettle, then they will be able to ask the right
questions & get the Help & advice they need.
& if they *do* expect to just be able to use it without thinking about it,
then they will sooner or later, (probably sooner) find that they
come up against various problems & that the *other* people out there
on the Internet (such as all the spammers, Scammers, Virus Writers
& other MalWare distributors) will take advantage of them.
Yes, BTDTGTTS with one (not so new) newbie who's pooter has spent more time
in PC World repair centre 'cos her nephew told her it was the only place to
sort out various problems. All of which BTW I recon I could have found the
answer to without the expense.

People will forget what you said.
People will forget what you did, but
People will never forget how you made them feel.
