Yep!
& I've been out at work overnight, but I see Bram has been able
to help with asking some Qs to establish what the prob is.

Can you tell us what Version of Nero you have & also what CD (or DVD)
ReWriter you have?

& also, what made you use "Nero Start Smart"?

Why not just use the actual Nero Burning Rom thing?

Yes, I know that "Start Smart" thing claims to be simple, but that's
only cos it hides the stuff that you really need to know about!

If you use the ordinary Nero Burning Rom Program (I assume that's
the one that came with the CD/DVD ReWriter that you've just had
fitted?), then you can work your way through the various Options
& soon get it all sorted.
Nero also has plenty of "Information" stuff, which will check the
CD/DVD Drive & also check the CD/DVD Disk (Media) that you are using.

... So far, so good. When I click on "Add", a list of all My
Docs etc come up on the screen so I've clicked on "My Pictures",
clicked on all the photies in there, and started the burning of same,
then got error messages on the screen.

Well, did you choose (somewhere along the line) the Option to:
"Make a Data CD/DVD"?

Cos that's what yo uwant, if you are making a backup of your stuff.

I've printed out the errors and got a 4 page print-out which to me
is unintelligble.

Yep - many of the Errors that can occur when doing CD (or DVD)
Burning are very complicated & Confuzzling, but generally you won't
need to get too involved with them.

When you've got the basic process sorted out, those Errors will go away.

illegal disc

That "illegal" Disk sounds scary, but it isn't really - it just
means that it's a disk that isn't recognised as being the right sort
for your particular CD/DVD ReWriter.

Were these Disks the ones that were supplied to you with the the
new Drive?
& were they supplied as being the right sort for it?

If so, then try another one.
It may just be a duff Disk.

Check out what sort of Disks your Drive can handle.
They can be + or - & they can be ReWritable (RW) or just Recordable
(R)

There is *also* such a thing as DVD RAM, (whiuch is different)
but they are not usually used.

all writers idle, stopping conversion
conversion idle, stopping reader
writing short lead-out
session fixation error
could not perform end of Disc-at-once
Burn process failed

Yes.
It's trying to tell you that it couldn't do what it was being told
(or expected) to do, given the particular Instructions, Choices,
Settings & Options that you made.
:-)

So, you've either got to tell it to do something else, or make some
different Choices, or Select different Settings & Options!

Can you Post back with the actual Make & Model Number of it?
Nero will be able to tell you that.

Well, if the "Burn process failed", which is what it was telling you,
then there won't be any (usable/readable) Data on the Disk!

Have a read through the Manual & also the Help Files - they will tell
you the various steps & stages you need to go through.
