Thanks for all the helpful suggestions
Had a long chat with Boo on Skype

It was lucky that you had another PC (Laptop) that you could get
Online with & use Skype to talk, wasn't it?
Otherwise you end up having to use an ordinary Phone (which usually
costs money)

& NetMeeting is good for that sort of thing as well, cos then the
other person can actually *see* what's what with the PC - but
obviously if the PC won't even Boot Up (into windoze), you can't then
use Netmeeting on the "dead" PC, but Netmeeting can be used to "walk
through" the Steps on a working PC

... and she talked me through some of the Bios

Unfortunately, you can't actually do the BIOS stuff on NetMeeting,
cos you can only get to see the BIOS *before* windoze Boots up.

and we tried the recovery disc and found we could restore factory
settings.

What Make (& Model) of PC is it, that you have?

& have you had a good look (using windoze Explorer) on the Recovery
Disk?

What Files & Folders are on it?

At that point we backed out

Yep, they always have various Warnings & Prompts, (before it actually
does the "Factory Recovery" so you can choose whether to go ahead or
not.

... and decided I would wait until after the weekend and ask my
daughter about the boot disk that I thought we had somewhere.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I found the disk

Great!
:-)

... and, with the added confidence of the hand holding session with
Boo, plus the info in your posts I didded it!!

Well done!

Yes, it always helps to have someone on hand, who has done that sort
of thing before.
:-)

Different PCs have differen tways of doing the Recovery &/or Install,
but basically, they are broadlky similar.

& when you've done it a few times, you get to know what thinsg should
be like & what differences there are, so you know what to look out for,
with different Setups.

PC has been restored to life

Wey hey!
:-)

Thanks all
Oh and if Noreen ever again says"You never have any problems with
your computer do you?" then I won't be responsible for my actions :-))

Well ,you don't seem to have very many (major) probs, do you?

P'raps you don't "Fiddle" enough with it!
:-)

If you want some probs to sort out, then do some more "Fiddling"
& "Adjusting"!
:-)
