On proving one's sanity

Instead of being asked who the Prime Minister was, I was asked what the
month and year were. I answered "Two thousand and six, and January."
Charmingly, I was told that it was the other way round but never mind.
I was delighted that she who asked me spoke with a mittel-europaisch
accent. I feel that psychiatrists should have such accents. If she
_had_ asked me who the Prime Minister was, I would have replied
"Margaret Thatcher in drag." I think Paul Merton once recounted how his
humorous remarks confused psychiatric hospital staff, so one must be
careful.
