But surely it's aimed at the sort of people (prolly the majority?)
who *do* want to have some sort of WebSite up, so other people can
find it & see it?

Generally (I thought?) *most* Websites *do* actually want to be
seen?

What's the point in Posting stuff up on the Web if nobody ever
sees it?

There's a difference IMHO in putting something on a web site and
giving selected people the URL and putting something on a web site
that Google is automatically going to archive PDQ.

Yep, which is why if someone didn't want the stuff easily accessible,
then they wouldn't use the Google Page thing.

... The web sites I have I don't want to appear on Google

But lots of them do!!!
Have you tried doing a Google Search, specifying your PlusNet Site
in the "Return Results from the Domain: " Box?
Or by just putting site:sitename (no space between the Colon & the
sitename) in the Search Box?

With a normal Website on an ISP's WebSpace, you can't have
a robots.txt File, can you? - Well, actually you *can*, (sas you have)
but many ISPs (such as NTL) have their User's Sites in SubFolders
(that's with the UserName as the first Folder/Directory Name in the
URL) & a robots.txt File is only Read if it's in the *Top* Level
(Root) Directory of a Domain Name.

Also, not all Search Engines honour the robots.txt File, anyway.
& some read the robots.txt File & then *explicitly* look in the
Directories that are Denied!

... and I have a few that are for family and/or close friends only.

But if you are relying on them not being found, simply by the URL
not being obvious, then that isn't very Secure.
If you don't want stuff accessed (or Viewed) by other people
(or Indexed by Search Engines), then you need to Set up proper Access
control, using the .htaccess File
