Perhaps any eyedrops needed may smart a little, but I wouldn't

I would fear. My Dad was *** a hoop when he went to have his eyes
checked out for cataracts at the hospital about 20 years ago. He
thought I can have my partial sight cured. Unfortunately the
cataracts weren't the major problem. He had loads of retinal
damage - caused by years of high blood pressure, and there was no
treatment for that condition.

Oh :( That is one of the problems Tony had in the past too, so much
so that it damaged his kidneys. Has them monitored every 6 months
now as they are not performing too well. What a pair we are as far
as that goes ;(

Well so long as he can keep the old BP in check, he should be protected
from that retinal damage.

Mind you he was well in to his 80s by
then and the damage must have been going on for many years by then.
I remember him telling me of problems which sounded a bit like
retinal detachment when he was around 65.

Tony is 77 :(
I think what dad had was retinal vein occlusions:

He also had cataracts that were so bad the doc couldn't see into his eyes,
but with an almost non-functional retina, cataract removal wouldn't have
helped. Presumably the tablets he took to keep his BP down, prevented a
deterioration in the retinal problem. Even so he was registered as
partially sighted, but could really only see shapes moving. He wouldn't
have been able to recognise a face a few feet from him.
