I reckon we always have been, and I know we have in the past fifteen
years. I remember going out there and while a mobile was a common
occurrence here out there they were rare. In fact I remember reading an
article which said that because Americans got free local calls to their
landline the mobile companies didn't consider America a country which
would adopt mobile technology as easily as Europe had. I used a BT charge
card in 1992 and my American friends had never seen anything like it. OTOH
I first saw caller display in Canada in 1994 but my American friends
hadn't heard of it.
