Re: Windows CD writing or not writing

Nope.
I meant the Drive that is used for (windoze is set to use for)
the Temporary (Cached) Image File that it makes, just before it
actually Burns the CD.

That is what is Set on the Recording Tab of the Drive Properties

That's still set as default, my C drive which has about 110 GB free

Also, when you Drag & Drop stuff, to a CD using windoze own Built-in
CD Burning thing, it puts (Copies) the Files that you specify into
(yet another!) Folder - that's a Folder called "CD Burning", buried
deep down in the Folder Structure...

It's in the "Microsoft" Folder in the "Application Data" Folder
that's in the "Local Settings" Folder, in the User Profile Folder
in the "Documents & Settings" Folder

It's empty

& there has to be enough spare room on the Hard Disk that is
on as well.
I assume there *is* plenty of spare room, cos you've got a 250 GB
Hard Disk, haven't you?

Yep.

& even with the various extra Partitions that you've divided it up
into, I reckon your windoze Drive (which is normally where those
various Folders are, by Default, is prolly about 100 GB in Size?

If all of those are OK & you still have the prob, please Post back

I still have a problem :-(

Oh dear!...

I would rather drag and drop for the odd folder or two.

It might be an idea to use the Nero "InCD" thingy, like Barbara
mentioned?

Ah you see I recognise InCD I just didn't recognise INCD.

That allows you to Drag & Drop stuff to a Recordable/ReWritable CD, using
the "Packet Writing" Driver stuff, so you can treat a CD Drive
as a Floppy.

But (also, like she suggested)

She did ? Well, well I must have missed a *suggestion*.

try Running the various Diagnostic
Tools on your Drive, that Nero Supply - they are in the "Nero Toolkit"
Folder in the "Ahead" Folder in the "Program Files" Folder.

I think I've found something. Don't know what to do about it ( that's where
you come in :-) ) but I think I've found what might be wrong. Does ASPI not
installed sound like the problem ? If so what's the answer ?

<snip>
But I'm now beginning to wonder if there was a fault with this
CD drive. For one thing it takes ages to read a CD.

Well, those Nero Diagnostic Tools will help you suss that out,
if there *is* a prob with the actual Drive itself, but I suspect
it's just a Software (Driver/or Settings/Options) prob.

See above.

... now I'm beginning to wonder if there has always been something
somewhere not right.

I take it you *are* using the CD/DVD Burning Drive?
& not the CD/DVD *Reader*?
:-)

:-P Well actually I did double check that and I tried about 20 different
CDs.

Don't forget you've got (I think) *2* Drives, but only one of them
is actually a Burner! (Recorder/ReWriter)
The other one only *Reads* CDs & DVDS

Yes it says so on the lid :-)

Well, you prolly Fiddled with something!!!

Oh no I didn't !!!! :-)

Yes you did!!!
You have been using the PC for a few weeks now, haven't you?

Yes but apart from the initial problem with writing a DVD I haven't used the
writing facility and it's kinda low on the priority list to fiddle with :-)

& that means *something* (lots of things will have changed on it.
A PC is full of Software...
& Software changes (& the Settings that Control the Software changes)

So there's *always* some Setting or Option somewhere which can get changed
accidentally or otherwise.

The trick is to suss out exactly which (of the numerous Settings)
is the one (or ones) that is/are causing the trouble.

Suggestion above... ASPI not installed ?

People will forget what you said.
People will forget what you did, but
People will never forget how you made them feel.
