Surely, if someone wants stuff like windoze, they can use windoze?
Why don't they make things like Linux (& the Applications)
look (& work) completely different from windoze, rather than
trying to emulate it?
Most window managers are different (when did you last use the
middle mouse button in Windows?) - KDE (and to some extent Gnome)
set out to make life easier for people switching.
In respect of the underlying OS the reverse is true, Windows
is having Linux features added gradually.
I thought the "windoze" way of doing things was what people
moaned about?
I don't think so, it's usually cost, bloat and instability.
Yes, I can see there's a prob with the cost (since we all end up
paying for the windoze Operating System that comes pre-installed
with most PCs)
Bloat, yes.
Many Applications (as well as the Operating System itself) *are*
getting very bloated, but din't you say that also applies to stuff
Running on Linux as well?
But instability?
What instability?
OK, yes w9x had probs like that.
But WinXP really does seem to be pretty much Rock Solid!
:-)
I've very rarely had any probs with it (the actual Operating System)
Crashing & neither has anybody else who I know that uses WinXP.
OK, yes, if you Fiddle & Mess with it *too* much you can screw
things up, but that's not really the fault of the Operating System,
is it? [*1]
& yes, some (poorly written) Programs (& Utilities) do Crash...
But again that's not really the fault of the Operating System.
Or is it?
:-)

LOL!
As it happens, actually - yesterday I actually had a BSoD
(Blue Screen of Death - STOP Error) on this PC!
:-(
It was something to do with TCPIP.SYS
I really dunno what caused it - I hadn't been messing!
But that was the first prob I have had like that for several Months
Why swap to another OS that is (or seems to be) doing it's best
to try to look (& work & feel) like windoze?
Because it's free, not bloated and rock solid.
See above.
:-)
... In addition you can use a window manager that is similar enough
to Windows to help the transition. Then you can use a different one
each day to match your mood!
LOL!
& you can with windoze as well!
If you want to.
There are plenty of Shell Replacements etc, available, aren't there?
Anyway...
I think that (still) the vast majority of the "Market" for Linux
(other than for Server type stuff) is for people who like fiddling!
