techie help needed for a friend please

My friend is trying to install a programme from CD called Nascar Heat.
Windows XP Home. The programme needs 260 mb free to install it. She has 24
gigs free. An error comes up that she has not enough free space to install
this. Have tried nearly all afternoon Googling but in vain. We have deleted
temp files. The hard drive does not need defragging. Does anyone know why
this is? The PC is fairly new and does not have a lot of stuff on it. She
did have the programme on it before but uninstalled it using the
uninstaller.
Have not seen the PC, have been doing it by phone. Thanks
