Yes, all the PC's are working OK, I've needed to reactivate one of
them ( within 3 days, not 30?), after changing the hard-drive &
upgrading the memory, did it online without having to resort to a plea
to an M/S person!

I've recorded wich PC is using which copy of XP, & 3 out of 4 have
they "official label.

This PC was assembled by a local sytem builder, therefore I have all
the original software, ( XP, drivers, Nero, etc.) but no recovery
discs.

Norton Ghost is version 9, the activation key-less variant that has
been given recently away with Norton Int.Sec. by PC World.
( A freind recently purchased a new PC from PCWorld & asked me if I
could use "Ghost".

See above comments re. my PC.
Only the new Acer Laptop has any "restore" software & that's not
supplied on disc, they have created two accessible & one hidden
partition on the H/D & their restore info is tucked away there.
I've the licence for XP & the "OEM" manual, but no actual disc.
Drat!.
Acer strongley suggest that before you use the laptop, you follow the
on-screen instructions & burn your own recovery CD's or DVD, which
I've done.

Exactly, if I restrain myself & only take one machine out of service
at any one time, I'll not have too many problems.

Why?

It might be cheaper to buy a large external H/D & swap drives, raher
than pay an inflated price for a plastic box, but I guess we agree on
the concept.
I've a friend who is upgrading his elderly P/C's, I might do a deal
with him with the other drives.
