Maybe they were Greyed out, cos that means (implies/suggests) that
they were in the "Default" Position & they only become *Un*Greyed,
when they are moved from the Default Postion?

Though I agree, that it's a poor design of "User Interface", cos
"Greyed out" normally means "Unavailable"

Great!!!
If it hadn't, you would have needed to loo kfor some Button or Tick
Box somewhere, which would have allowed (or made) the Adjustment
Settings to become available (UnGreyed out)

Maybe cos he didn't know?
He is a Support/Help Line "Consultant" ("Team Member").
He can't be expected to (& isn't likely to) know all about all the
different Adjustments that windoze (& Graphics Card Driver Software)
offers.

>... If *he* didn't know, how do they expect customers to know ??

Customers can soon find out things like that (if they don't already
know), by "Fiddling" around (or by asking various people who *do*
know about things like that.

I reckon there are plenty of people (like us) who actually know far more
about the way windoze works & what Adjustments & Settings there
are & what effects they have & when to use them (& how to find them
& find out about them) than most "Support/Help Line Consultants"

It was!!!
It was "Set to the Default Settings"!
& (as we all know, those aren't usually the Settings that any
particular individual might want (or need).

Did yo ufill in any Questionnaire, detailing & specifying what level
of Brightness you wanted it Set to, when you purchased it?

& anyway...
How can anything like that be Set up *in advance*?
Surely, it depends on the environment (room/lighting, position etc,)
that the Monitor is in?

Well, that's fine for him!!!

But all those Settings are there to be Adjusted, if needed.

Well, you could do a "John #8"?
:-)

But yes, the cost of a replacement Monitor (& the cost of sending
it out & delivering it to you) would prolly have wiped out (most of)
the Profit that Dell would have made on the original Sale!

Great!
