Sheesh!!!

Maybe time for a bit of a clear out then?
:-)

How do you manage to accumulate that many separate Files then?

I thought I was a bit of a "hoarder" & "storer", when it comes to
various things - I never chuck anything away, if I think it *might*
be useful & also even when I *know* that it won't really be useful!...

So (purely out of interest, just to see how much stuff I happen to be
"storing")...

I just had a look (using a combination of the WinXP Disk Management
Utility & windoze Explorer properties etc...) at one of my Hard Disks
(which is a 250 GB Hard Disk) - it has (at the moment) 4 Partitions
on it...

30 GB
30 GB
97 GB
10 GB
(& 67 GB of Space unallocated to any Partitions at all)

& on those Partitions (totalling about 160 GB of Space), there is...

30 GB - (Contains one XP Installation (my "day - to - day" one)
+ Program Files & some of the stuff that is normally, by Default,
in the "Documents & Settings", which I haven't moved elsewhere)

36,214 Files occupying about 8.77 GB (21 GB Free Space)

30 GB - (Contains Full Backups of 4 x WinXP Installations, along with
the relevant Program Files Folders for them all *&* a w98 Installation
from some years ago, with all *it's* Program Files & My Docs etc, plus
*all* the Downloaded Install Files for many Applications & Utilities,
over about 8 Years (that (Downloads) Folder comes to 7,286 Files -
3.77 GB) & that Drive also contains various iterations of "My Documents"
Folders & all the Web stuff & Log Files & umpteen thousand eMails,
Pictures, Music Files, Drivers & 4 *Years* worth of Daily 1/4 Hour
Radio Programs that I Download for my Sister (1514 Files - 20.1 GB)
plus various VPC (Virtual PC) Virtual Machine Images, along with all
the (Pre-Installed Drivers & OEM Software for this Machine - total...

130,394 Files occupying about 49.8 GB (about 37 GB free Space)

30 GB - Contains a complete "Factory Recovery" type, Fresh Installation
of WinXP, (along with the Pre-Installed OEM Software that comes with
it), mainly for "testing"...

29,506 Files occupying about 5.64 GB (24 GB free Space)

10 GB - Contains my *other* "My Documents" type stuff - all my Sent
& Received eMail Messages for the last 8 Years (including,
incidentally, nearly 130 MB of spam!<g>) along with all my "Received
Files" for NetMeeting, M$N Messenger & Skype etc.
As well as all my Favorites Folders (& Bookmarks Backups) & Address
Book & Mirrored WebSites for other people, more Pictures & Music Files
*as well* as the actual "Factory Recovery" Image Files, plus a whole
bundle of Utilities that I keep on there & also on USB Memory Card
things.
All the stuff on that Drive (Partition) totals...

3,636 Files - 8.73 GB (1 & a bit GB Free Space)

So, all in all (accumulated over about 8 Years - BTW - this doesn't
count (very) much of the stuff left on my previous Amstrad PC, that
only had 32 MB of Hard Disk Space!), all of that stuff totals...

199,750 Files - 72.94 GB

So...
How on *earth* (says he, incredulously! - With emphasis!) - do you
manage to end up with 500,000 Files on your PC???
:-)

Have you cleared out your Temporary Internet Files (Cache) recently?
& also your Temp Folder?

Both of them (on all of the Drives/Installations) can very often end
up with thousands of un-necessary & not needed Files in them, so
if you discount what's in there, what is the figure for the Files
that you actually use/need & keep, consciously, intentionally?

I wonder (purely out of interest, again) how much accumulated stuff
other people have on their PCs?
:-)

Tickettyboo needn't answer, cos I know she makes a point of clearing
up & "tidies up" her PC virtually every day!)
:-)

I know that even her 4 or 5 years worth of Pictures from all her
Jollidays she goes on (& the 200 odd CDs worth of Music that she has
collected) don't add up to anywhere near that many Files.
