DVD disks driving me mad

So I'm sitting at the old pooter wanting to do a belt and braces and save
all My Docs onto a DVD. I've tried DVD + I've tried DVD - I've tired Packard
Bell disks and no name disks, I've tried DVD R/W and in the properties of
them all it says the disks have no free space so they won't write to them.
I've tired a DVD R/W which I used to play about with the video capture and
know it jbexes 'cos I've got 2 minutes of video on it but the properties
still says it's got no free space while the disk itself while showing the
video menu tells me there is free space. One faulty disk I can accept but
not all I've tried tonight :-(
I've spent most of the evening getting My Docs down to a size to fit onto
one DVD and I don't want to start again with CDs. So before I open a new
bottle of Zinfandel and just drown my sorrows and give up has anybody got
any suggestions ?

People will forget what you said.
People will forget what you did, but
People will never forget how you made them feel.
