Yep - eMail is becoming a very poor way of getting Info to people,
isn't it?
Cos of all the probs introduced by the various spam & Bulk Mail
Filters that many ISPs (& individuals) are now using - many of the
"Mailing List" type stuff is routinely Ignored (or Deleted) before
it's Read, or even before it reaches the people.
So RSS Feeds are becoming the way to distribute (& get) Info about
UpDates & any new Info on WebSites.

But there are plenty of other, (Free!) Independent, 3rd party RSS
Feed Readers around, aren't there?

I've been trying out various RSS Readers recently.
A few that seem to work OK are...
Abilon
http://abilon.org/
Awasu
http://awasu.com/
Active Web Reader
http://deskshare.com/awr.aspx
They are just some of the ones, (beginning with "A"<g>) - there are
plenty of others available.
Here's a good list of some more...
http://loosewire.typepad.com/blog/2004/08/a_directory_of_.html
& here's another List...
http://directory.google.com/Top/Reference/Libraries/Library_and_Information_Science/Technical_Services/Cataloguing/Metadata/RDF/Applications/RSS/News_Readers/
& the New (Version 2) of the Google Desktop thingy
http://desktop.google.com/features.html#sidebar
comes with a SideBar that does a reasonable job of handling a few
RSS Feeds - it doesn't have much in the way of "Fine Tuning" all
the various options, that the other RSS Readers have & it doesn't
allow you to put the various different Feeds into Categories & Folders,
but it's Ok for keeping an eye on a few RSS Feeds.
