I've managed to fix a couple of laptops by downloading the service manual
off the interweb, and following the instructions.
If it's just the socket, then a fine soldering iron might be able to fix
it. Or maybe add a few wires to an external socket ?
I was pleasantly surprised by my ability to take the laptops apart, andput
them back together again! and even more by getting them working.
