Recommendations For A Note Taking/Keeping Program?

My Portege is going back to the Toshiba hospital to have its keyboard
sorted out, it is being collected on Monday.

It's the machine I use for email, Usenet and name/address storage as
well as running Skype, Net Meeting and MSN Messenger.

I had a horrible thought. My email app contains emails with details of
my logon name and password for every site I belong to e.g. Amazon, Dabs
etc. and Skype and MSN Messenger automatically sign in and log on. My
Palm Desktop has names, addresses etc. for all my contacts, including
several from this group.

So I have un-installed Skype and MSN Messenger from the Toshiba and I'm
currently doing a full format of the data drive. Are there any other
precautions I should take to protect this data? I could restore the OS
using the restore partition. I am really anxious to avoid personal
details falling onto the wrong hands.

That leads to my main question. Is anybody using/aware of a program
that could keep all this data? Ideally I would be able to enter data,
paste data, perhaps even keep links in it. I suppose if it allowed its
data file to be kept on a server or one of those USB dongles it would
be even better.

Many thanks :-)
