While you're at it, go & get the latest (up-to-date) Versions of the
ZoneAlarm & AVG Install Files - that will save you having to Install
them & then Update them.

The (original) Install Files that you have at the mo are likely to be
(at least) several Months out of date?

Yes, if you *really* want Access to all your old (& Current) OutLook
Express Mails before having got the LAN (Local Area network) up &
running, between the old PC & the new PC.

Once you have the LAN up & running, you can transfer stuff like that
in seconds.

You can just "Explore" the Drives & folders on your other PC, from the
new PC & transfer (Copy or Move) anything that you need, from one to the
other.

Yep!
That's prolly the most important bit!
:-)

WinXP will almost certainly recognise any card reader or camera - & it
has Drivers for them built-in & it will Install them, so that they
appear as extra "Drives" in (windoze) Explorer.

Make sure you use the latest Install File (from the ZA/AVG Website)

Remember that the WinXP (SP2) built-in Firewall comes Enabled by Default
(in WinXP SP2), so you may need to turn that off Manually, if ZoneAlarm
doesn't do it for you.

Since you will have WinXP SP2 on the new PC my (own, personal) opinion
is that you prolly won't need to do that *straight away* - wait a bit,
until you know the basic System is working OK & you can find your way
around it, before piling on loads of "windoze Updates".

Yep.
It should do.

But it may well be a good idea (when you first Open up OE on the New
Installation) to *not* complete the "New Account" Wizard thingy which
Pops up as soon as you Open OE - just cancel out of it & Set your normal
OE Settings up (including telling it *not* to Automatically Check for
new Mail when it Opens & every<x> Minutes - cos all those things
happening all at once on a new System will lead to confuzzlement, with
loads of Dialog Boxes (& possible Error Messages all Popping up at once.
& get the Store Root Folder pointed to the right Place, *before* Setting
up all the Accounts.

Yep.

I'm still not certain whether or not it's best to Boot the New Machine
up first & *then* Boot the old one up, or Boot the Oold one up first
& then Boot up the New one...

It won't normally matter, after the first time, but the first time they
both "see" each other, there are bound to be some Prompts on one or
other (or both) of the Machines & with only one Monitor & Keyboard, you
won't be able to see all the Prompts & answer them.

A *very* good idea!!!

& that's (one of the many) reasons for getting used to the new machine
& Setting it up, before you try to Connect the old one to it.

You've really thought this all through, haven't you?
:-)

& have you got the ZA (on the old Machine) Set to allow the Connections
to (& from) the VNC on it?

> Now someone tell me all the things I've missed out please. :( .

You don't appear to have missed out much!
:-)

BTW - Don't forget to Save (ready for Transfer) your OutLook Express
AddressBook (.WAB) File.

& your Favorites Folder - you can Zip that up, so it takes up much less
room, &/or Export it from Internet Explorer to a "Bookmark.htm" File.
