Depends where you live in the UK. Most of Europe, Oz and NZ are expensive
near the cities. Most of the world has embraced working from home - the UK
lags behind. The US generally has a very high earnings/CoL ratio.
I used to earn 70K in London and get back to Lancashire to see my family at
weekends. That plan didn't last long - I can't imagine how I even suffered
it for the few months I did. I've quartered my salary, got rid of my house
down there, work from the converted garage, and do the school run every day.
The three hours work I lose from being with my son after school can be made
up after he's gone to bed.
Get your husband to get a better job. Not better paid, or better prospects,
just better.
