Well to a certain extent that's your choice. We chose to live near dh's
work. This means that we are in a smaller house than we would like bacause
it's an expensive area. Alternatively he could take a job in the city with a
higher wage, but would be working silly hours.
We choose to stay poor and with a small house because we like to see each
other.
There's also quite a lot of people joining the country...

Ps. If he's away 11 hours a day, you have only an hour to see him then
you're only up for 12 hours a day????
