9/10 rashes as kids in our house were due to changes in washing powder or the machine not having rinsed it out enough.
I must say that I no longer use washing powder, finding liquid preferable. There're no worries about the stuff not dissolving, it starts "working" quicker, and it seems more economical (mind you, I'm sure people use a *lot* more powder or liquid than is needed). Also, in these days of washing machines which use only about half a pail of water, rinsing is very important - I set my machine to do an "Aquarinse Plus" (which I naively imagine is an extra rinse, or more water in the rinse) to get rid of residues. I don't like "conditioners", either, at all. What's the point? However, washing wool is a special case, that's a hand job (ooh-err!) and involves ordinary soap. Ordinary washing powder *kills* woollens[1].
[1] Where can you still buy woolly jumpers, and things? Answer (at least in part): at TK-MAXX. If proper woollens and cottons are available elsewher at reasonable prices, I'd love to know]. Sorry about errors in this missive, I may be becoming squiffy. Do I really splee "woollen" like that? Tomorrow will tell. .
