I wonder how old your MIL is, it can be difficult late in life when a
partner dies, particularly if you have decreasing health yourself, most
children deal with it, because they have to and at the end of someones life,
it's difficult and possibly even unkind to try and make someone change. My
parents have similar with my dads mum, not quite so extreme, but still
fairly dependent, but fortunately there is another sibling who is single to
share the load with and my mums parents live in a different country. My
grandma is 80, I think if your MIL is approaching that age, you may just
have to ride it, but if she is younger then you do need to change things,
ultimately it is going to adversely affect your son, I'm not explaining
things very well here, but I do think age has a bearing on it.
