No, I'm not saying that, because I haven't read the books in question,
Well niether have I but from what he says it doesn't seem like
it's a book on the biochemisry of blood.
No, that's right, it isn't. I haven't suggested it was.

Yep, and I;'ve never said that Star trek is real science fact but I'd say
it is far closer to factual science than harry potter.

I'm not qualified to make that call. However, it is quite possible that
when they refer to inducing altered states by using blood (which V says
they did refer to),

I don;t remember him saying that I remember him saying that you can
change
the universe or the things in it by thought alone.

Well, you've forrgotten some of what he said then. What's your point?
That you mis-interpeted what he and I were saying about this book(s) of
patricks.

that's what they were talking about; certainly it _is_ possible to induce
an altered state by cutting oneself,
But he wasn;t talking about that.

He talked specifically about using pain to induce an altered state.

Can you quote that point so we can check the context.
IIRC he was refering to the books that also contained such things
as the power or blood.

We all know about shamans talking to spirits but it's nothing to do with
spirits
and I should know I drink whisky.
It's down to chemicals in the blood stream NOT pain although pain
can and does encourage the body to release chemicals, a similar things
happen with some when they eat chocolate. Some use this effect in sporting
events
cheer leaders, and/or aggressive posturing heightens adrenaline, excitement
does to.
Some get this effect (school girls in particular) when they see certain pope
stars or film stars.

but in that case, it's not the blood that's important, but the pain and
the body's (and mind's) reaction to it.
Yep but it doesn't change anything outside of the body does it

No, it doesn't. Why should it?
That's the point it doesn't and the books that Patrick has say it can or
does,
and that's anther reason I say the book is crap from a truth perspective,
of course it could be a grammatically excellent and be a really interesting
read
so perhaps you're only valid point is that I should call the books crap.

and certainly not anywhere in the universe it won;t even change anything
in the local room.

That's right. I wasn't talking about changing the universe, I was talking
specifically about the link between pain and altered states. Why are you
trying to apply that to changing the universe?
because that';s what the books Patrick has was discussing .

Erm... Dave, I said "it certainly affects your state of mind, yes". How
the hell have you interpreted that as meaning "your state of mind
doesn't get altered"? You've actually managed to interpret what I've
said as meaning exactly the opposite of what I stated very clearly.

Because you've said that a girl that is drunk who says she didn't want
sex

That's a separate conversation and has no relevant here, so just drop it.

Why, are you saying that such things as altered states of mind don;t happen
to drunk females.

And you think that a book that talks about using bolld because it's got
energy
is likey to be a text book on pain an altered states. /

No; I didn't claim the book was a good book, and indeed I was _correcting_
the impression that V had got from the book. Do you understand that?
You were correcting his impression by telling him that thye altered states
section in the boko was true and factual ?
Without even reading what these books actually said about the subject.

No, that's right; that's rather what I was trying to explain;
And that's why I considered the book to be crap unless of course you're
interested in such belief systems.

Yes. And your point is?
That was the point, and that it's mostly likely that all of the book is of
teh
same standard.

that cutting oneself can induce an altered state not because of the
blood, but because of the pain, which triggers endorphins.
So it could be the endorphines rather than the pain.

The pain triggers the endorphins, which trigger (or contribute to) the
altered state.

Yep, but such a book may well use the appearnce of blood as the cause
rather than pain. Give me a dozen studetns a set of snooker balls and a
towel
and I'll get to work on proving that blood is NOT required for
any form of altering the states of mind. I could even do it without causing
pain,
but why should I restrict my fun and real science.

I've found no reference to pain producing the effects V describes
Can you show any such thing where anything says that pain causes the
planets to move or anything happening to the universe .

Dave, I'm not talking about changing the universe;
But V and this book did.

Why have you changed it from the mind chyanging the universe to
pain changing the universe ?

I haven't, Dave; I haven't said anything about anythign changing the
universe, that's just you trying to change the subject. I have referred
simply and specifically, in a very clear way, to the link between pain and
altered states. That's it. _You_ are the only person banging on about
changing the Universe, not me.

NO V. said that the books Patrick had included such things.
