Reading update - Zombie Invasion

Update on what is happening in the world of goth/industrial/ebm music
in Reading.

Reading now has five (yes) five nights of possible interest.

THE CHURCH OF MADNESS
Church of Madness is still going at the Rising Sun every Wednesday
complete with DJ boat and rhino. Its in its fifth year and (correct me
if I am wrong) it is the only weekly goth/industrial night in the South
outside London. However its longevity is matched only by its sparse
attendance yes we still mostly playing to an empty pub especialy in the
summer . As always we are looking for guest djs willing to experience
the fun of negotiating its decaying decks but putting live bands is
tricky at the moment.

Forthcoming Guest djs include:

CHURCH OF THE GRIM DEAD!! September 28th
Reading becomes the Land of the Dead as a horde of flesh eating Zombies
besiege the Rising Sun.
DJs Gwilym and Cavey Nick (Dead and Buried) play a selection of Goth
and Deathrock tunes to die for as everyone is eaten alive!!!

A few survivors may manage to survive to hear:

October 5th - Djs Angelus and Loki (Slimelight/ The Calling)
October 12th - Djs Maxwell and Dr Joy (Intrusion)

Website: not been updated in a while I am afraid - but the basics are
correct.

DROPZONE - Reading's Saturday Industrial/Metal/Goth night second
Saturday of the month.
Dropzone aims to have a somewhat similar feel to Synthetic Culture if
you have tried that and has been pulling in over 100 people most of who
seem to have a great time. It is organised by Turbulent Soundscape and
Rex formerly of Full Tilt at the Electric Ballroom. The main room
plays ebm/Industrial with some goth and another room with straight
metal. It is just moving venue to a new place and from October 8th will
have a Third room - The Vault of Scarlet Shadow where I will be djing.
I will be playing lots of trad goth, some synth and eighties, and
anything else I can fit in. It is only a small room but it does have
crimson drapery :)

Velocity - Every Thursday
http://www.turbulentsoundscape.com/clubs/velocity/default.htm

Free night in the basement of the Reading Purple Turtle organised by
Turbuelent Soundscape. A weird if entertaining night in which you can
discover what happens if you play Covenant and Ultraviolence to
trendies. (It turns out they rather like it which might confirm some
peoples worst fears about cyber or give you a happy feeling that music
can bring people together in cheerful dancing joy.)

Nokurnal
Goth/Industrial/Electro night monthly 1st mondays in the month.
Always fun this night has a great venue if a bit too large for numbers
attending and also has a regular stall from Lineout records too. It is
also has a Saturday night special soon Saturday 5th november @ gravity
- dj taoist (dark trix). It will be moving to Thursdays soon as well.

Electrocious
Reading's monthly electrosynth night. Get all your synth and electro
needs fulfilled here and it also has live bands, Trauma Pet recently
played. It is soon to be upgraded to Electrocious 1.2 with at a new
venue in November.

By the way I also still have copies of a little subcultural Zine I ran
up, recently mentioned on Radio 6. It has an interesting retrospective
on The Mission's gigs at Reading Festival, stuff on Reading's Ghosts
and other weird stuff.
