I haven't been following this thread too closely so perhaps this has
already been addressed, but I thought pain was just the brains
"translation" of the messages it was receiving. Therefore "pain" is in the
mind which is why some people can put themselves through painful ordeals
without feeling it by hypnosis and trance states.

Surely Synaesthesia is an example of the brain incorrectly translating the
messages it is receiving ?
