Many here know I am very involved in Rights of Way issues and an
anomaly needs addressing in the law. We are allowed to use Footpaths
in our wheelchairs but surprisingly it is not a "right" which I feel
to be discriminating against cripples. A RoW is used by AB's as a
"right" and we can also use one as a "right" providing we can travel
without our wheelie. I have tried before to take a case under the
Disability Discrimination Act and I got badly bruised. I came across
the word "reasonable" and lost. The court ruled I couldn't use a gate
AB's used but as there was another gate half a mile away it was
reasonable to use that one instead. No notice was taken of the fact
the other "reasonable" gate did not lead to where I wanted to go. Many
MP's are now worried they may not be MP's soon and will be anxious to
be seen to be doing good deeds so if you have a similar difficulty
write to your MP. The RoW laws are very complex and understanding them
takes a helluva lot of reading and remembering. It is something a
cripple can take on and become an expert on. Believe me it takes over
your life and gets you out and about too so consider it as a way of
avoiding becoming a cabbage. I also go to a disabled sailing club and
I can now sail a yacht single handedly but more often than not in a
group of other folks and it makes a good few hours out in the fresh
air and learning how to sail too.

While you waste your life trying to get the countryside made wheelchair freindly I actually have a life.
A life that involves lots of getting out and about, driving, outdoor hobbies and a girlfriend/home/big dog buisiness, friends etc...
As the DDA hasnt even come close to getting simple access to goods and services in the vast majority of even new businesses* you have absolutely no possibility of getting 25000 turnstyles, gates, and uneven or too narrow muddy tracks altered. Because even I as a wheelchair user can see that it is unreasonable..
* Went to buy a bike in a Halfords store for my fitness orientated girlfriend the other year. These cloned new metal stores have all the bikes stuff upstairs and no lift. And they are still producing them. Anyway the head office said that to comply they only had to bring down anything I was interested in. So I made them bring down most of the stock since I wanted to see all the bikes. Not very useful the DDA is it. No teeth. You are wasting your time.
